As my work has developed over the years, I have continually used the duality of the hidden and exposed to explore a physical and emotion sense of place. My sources are derived from immediate surroundings, travels and my own body as self-portrait.
The connection between structure and image has been an essential part of this exploration. Questions that have guided my work include: What is essential in depicting an image in woven structure? If the loom dictates structure, how can I use that dictated structure to enhance and reflect the choice of image?
The slow pace of hand-manipulated techniques, which allows for thoughtful contemplation while working, has further helped me make this connection as thoughts and surfaces are layered, imagery is rooted in solitary moments and fragments become whole.
